Fazenda Carmo Estate

Where 150 years of family tradition meets state-of-the-art innovation. Nestled in the rolling hills of Heliodora, Fazenda Carmo Estate is a testament to what happens when passion, scientific research, and deep social responsibility come together. Hand-picked, partially shade-fermented, and powered entirely by the sun.

Generations of Passion

For over 150 years, the Junqueira family has dedicated its generations to the art of coffee cultivation. Over the last three decades, Túlio and his wife Lu Junqueira have focused that legacy into producing world-class specialty coffees at Carmo Estate. Túlio manages the agronomy and processing with infectious passion with his son Andre, while Lu, a lifelong physician, carefully oversees the estate’s many health, safety, and community initiatives.

Their commitment to elevating specialty coffee has been a driving force at Carmo Estate for the last 30 years. Túlio has been a dedicated innovator in the Brazilian specialty landscape, partnering with leading coffee scientists and joining the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association at its very inception to push the boundaries of post-harvest processing on his farm.

"Seeing our coffee recognized like this is a gift to us. We take great pride in producing specialty coffees and delivering each one for the world to taste."Túlio Junqueira

Innovation & Processing

To achieve the exceptional clarity and complexity, Carmo Estate pairs traditional knowledge with rigorous scientific research:

  • Scientific Backing: The farm's post-harvest processing is closely guided by Professor Flávio Borém from the Federal Institution of Lavras, a global authority on coffee science.

  • Fully Traceability on all each lot: To maximize cup quality, the team utilizes specialized anaerobic fermentation in the shade and slow-drying on suspended beds.

  • Quality Control: An on-site laboratory tests and evaluates samples immediately as each batch is finished, ensuring strict quality consistency before the beans ever leave the farm.

Sustainability & Community at Heart

We partner with farms that give back more than they take. Carmo Estate stands out as a beacon of environmental and social sustainability in Minas Gerais.

Environmental Care

50%+ Native Forest: Nearly half of the estate's land is kept as protected native forest, safeguarding local flora, fauna, and natural waterfalls while creating a perfectly balanced micro-climate.

100% Solar Powered: The entire coffee preparation and processing infrastructure runs completely on clean energy generated by on-farm photovoltaic solar panels.

Social Impact

Land Sharing Program: Running successfully for 15 years, this initiative allows workers and residents to rent small plots within the estate for a symbolic price to cultivate their own coffee.

Housing Subsidies: More than 80 families live within the estate perimeter, receiving direct economic subsidies to build or renovate their homes.
